  • Bag

Materials: avocado stones, soy milk, water based ink, 100 % cotton

These bags are dyed with a 100 % natural dye created from Avocado stones to achieve a soft pink colour. Before the dying process the tote bags have been pretreated (mordanted) with soya milk to create a long-lasting colour result.

The bags are then screen printed by hand with an environmentally friendly, water based fabric ink which is heat set and remains soft to the touch.

The bag is 36.5cm wide x 36.5cm long.
Handle hangs approx 29cm long at its mid point.

As the bags are hand dyed in small batches, each item will vary in colour and look. Avocado is a strong dye which is colour fast but over time and usage and washing may fade the colour over time, adding to its unique appearance.

Wash separately, gentle hand wash recommended, line dry and iron on reverse.

Any questions about these bags, please just ask.

about

'To the Boats' is a warm and nostalgic duet with Singer-Songwriter Sophie Kilburn. The instrumentation is sparse and earthy with autoharp and ‘First Aid Kit’-inspired harmonies with a ghostly layer of incidental sounds leading the imagination towards a dark lake in a lush Summer forest.

“I wrote ‘To the Boats’ in the summer of 2019 in a Welsh chapel. The lyrics came together like a jigsaw puzzle whilst searching through titles of books that covered the back wall.”

‘To the Boats’ is a song dedicated to friendship. It speaks of longing for an embrace from a close friend. It pictures the separation, either physical or emotional that can occur between two people, once inseparable. It is a song about the intimacy of hearing “I wish you were here” whispered gently through a mobile phone and received through the vibrations in your ear.

“My childhood friend had been in a horrible accident with a bad concussion. For days, I was unsure whether she would ever return to her usual self. I was worried that she had hit her head so badly that all our mutual memories were gone. Using a selection of book titles as the starting point for my writing, helped me find a language for what I could not express in my own words. As soon as the lyrics started forming, the rest of the song just came dancing out of nowhere.”

lyrics

Tree by leaf
Deep waters
I wish you were here with me

Stone by stone
Outweighs us
I wish you were here with me

Tiptoe over the bridge to memories we lost
To fights we fought and things we learned to live with
Burning into the night
I can’t swim or reach you on a lake with no name

To the boats
Afloat us
I wish you were here with me

Tiptoe over the bridge to memories we lost
To fights we fought and things we learned to live with
Burning into the night
I can’t swim or reach you
I can’t swim or reach you on a lake with no name
