  • Bag

Materials: avocado stones, soy milk, water based ink, 100 % cotton

These bags are dyed with a 100 % natural dye created from Avocado stones to achieve a soft pink colour. Before the dying process the tote bags have been pretreated (mordanted) with soya milk to create a long-lasting colour result.

The bags are then screen printed by hand with an environmentally friendly, water based fabric ink which is heat set and remains soft to the touch.

The bag is 36.5cm wide x 36.5cm long.
Handle hangs approx 29cm long at its mid point.

As the bags are hand dyed in small batches, each item will vary in colour and look. Avocado is a strong dye which is colour fast but over time and usage and washing may fade the colour over time, adding to its unique appearance.

Wash separately, gentle hand wash recommended, line dry and iron on reverse.

Any questions about these bags, please just ask.

about

A rich folk flower carried by Asthmatic Harp’s emotive vocal and a delicate acoustic guitar with a character full bass clarinet gently weaving in and out between subtle synthesisers, percussion, tinkling piano notes and the sound of rain. It is like a perfect sonic marriage between Joanna Newsom’s wonderfully strange sound world and the soothing, pure tones of Laura Marling.

Five Day Forecast meditates on the unpredictability of the weather and twists life sometimes takes like sudden Pandemics and drone sightings over airports. It forecasts stormy weather and “strong winds soon to batter Britain again” which, for a song that was written pre-Covid-19, reverberates with an unnervingly accurate prediction of what was coming. “Do you have to rush round’ to succeed?”, Asthmatic Harp sings reflecting on how our busy lifestyles and toxic productivity might just make us miss out on life’s simple pleasures like an interesting conversation with a stranger at a junction waiting for the lights to change.

“I wrote Five Day Forecast after a number of experiences of strangers approaching me in surprising ways in public spaces. There was the cyclist who pulled up next to me at a junction, asking me if I was ready to crash out of the European Union or the chap on the tube who started telling me about his girlfriend who was part of a circus troupe”

lyrics

Lyrics: Five Day Forecast

Small talk by a bus stop
I was just pretending to be me
It is tricky
Two stops that is just enough
time to sit and hum in solitude
Or time to meet someone new

Five day forecast
Winds are sweeping past
Fast strong winds
Soon to batter Britain again

No chance for the sun to dance
Rainy grainy look out on the streets
They need sweeping
But you’re fine there is still time
Do you have to rush round’ to succeed
I don’t think you need to

Five day forecast
Winds are sweeping past
Fast strong winds
Soon to batter Britain again

It stayed mild throughout the week
Against my predictions
Against all odds we were speaking

Five day forecast
Winds are sweeping past
Fast strong winds
Soon to batter Britain again
